🌙 Ready to Set a Goal So Big It Scares You (In the Best Way)? 💫

Hey there, I bet you've seen the Katy memes all over social and the 10-minute venture of an all-female crew into ‘space’.

But it has me thinking. Have you ever dreamed so big that it scared you? That’s the idea of moonshot goals, dreaming so big they force us out of our comfort into a realm of unlimited possibilities. I’m not talking about just about achieving something great, I’m talking about transforming how we think and operate on a fundamental level and shooting for the stars!

What Exactly is a Moonshot?

Moonshot goals are the dreams that seem nearly impossible, like transforming an industry or launching a new technology. They require you to stretch beyond conventional limits and innovate in ways that no one has before. If your goal doesn't make you a bit nervous, it might not be a moonshot. These goals encourage you to unravel current societal frameworks and ask, "What if?" This kind of thinking is what led to smartphones, electric cars, and online streaming services, ideas that once seemed far-fetched but now define our daily lives.

Moonshot goals often seem daunting at first, but they drive us toward extraordinary achievements. These goals challenge us to extend beyond our perceived limits and reach for unthinkable successes in personal and professional areas. For example, one of mine included writing a #1 international best-selling book, a memoir above all things Likewise, others might aim to triple their own company's revenue within five years becoming a multimillionaire, develop a groundbreaking technology that changes the face of healthcare, or finding a cure for cancer. In each of these instances, some professionals set their sights on launching an innovative start-up, becoming industry leaders, or driving transformative social change through their work. Each of these lofty goals requires a blend of ambition, determination, and strategic planning to transition from visionary ideas into tangible successes.

Change through Ambition

Setting a moonshot goal is like lighting a fire under yourself, and ultimately your team. It demands creativity and pushes you to step far beyond your comfort zone. You quickly realize that the old ways of doing things won't get you to a new place. Whether it’s rethinking a service model, building something entirely new, or disrupting an outdated system, ambition drives action! And action is where real progress lives. To make it real, start by breaking the big dream into smaller, bold steps and make room for experimentation without fear of getting it wrong.

The Value of the Journey

Pursuing a moonshot goal is never a straight line. It’s a winding path full of unexpected detours, setbacks, and wins that teach you more than you could have anticipated. The real power lies not just in achieving the goal but in who you become along the way. You build resilience, adaptability, sharper instincts, and a tolerance for things not always going according to plan. Celebrate the micro-wins, learn from the missteps, and stay focused on why you started in the first place. The personal growth that happens on the way to your moonshot is just as valuable as the destination itself.

Embracing Boldness

If you're leading a team, setting moonshot goals isn’t just personal, it should be a cultural mindset. Teams that aim high operate differently. Leaders should encourage calculated risk-taking, reward innovation, and embrace learning over fear of failure. Those who model this type of environment aren't just demanding results, they’re empowering people to think bigger, act braver, and collaborate smarter. It's about building a workplace where asking "What if?" isn’t just allowed, it’s expected. If you want innovation, you have to create the room for bold ideas to breathe..

Are You Ready to Aim Higher?

Moonshot goals aren't just about chasing unfulfilled dreams, they're about stretching ourselves beyond the obvious, thinking bigger than what's comfortable, and creating possibilities where others see barriers. Whether you hit that big goal or land somewhere just shy of it, the act of reaching reshapes everything about how you work, lead, and grow.

So, what’s your moonshot goal? What’s the one goal that excites you and scares you at the same time? Grab onto it. Start one step towards taking today. Set something so bold it forces you to level up in ways you haven’t even imagined yet. I am here to encourage you to stop aiming small, and instead, start reaching for what could truly change everything.

Are you ready to go where no man or woman has ever gone before? I have found that writing it down, telling others, or just plain admitting to yourself will help give you the boost of motivation you might need to actually start pursuing it! As always, I appreciate you reading. Please share with anyone you think might enjoy reading.

Here's to your next moonshot liftoff! 🚀Bobby

Well, Hello There and Happy New Year! By the time mid-January rolls around, I’ve usually already abandoned a few resolutions. Quietly, intentionally, without guilt. Not because I lack discipline, but because experience has taught me something most professionals won’t admit out loud: many resolutions sound responsible yet actively work against the life and leadership we’re trying to build! End-of-year clarity doesn’t come from doubling down. It comes from noticing what we’ve already stopped...

Happy Sunday! I need a vacation. It seems like lately I am always saying that! So I finally got one. Not just a quick trip back home to see family, where my itinerary was jam packed with functions. Or not just the quick weekend getaway, where packing and hopping on a plane takes up more time than the actual relaxing does. I actually just got back from spending 5 days on a glorious Caribbean island with beautiful weather, sand, and the sea. And I completely checked out. No travel pass on my...

Happy Labor Day Weekend! Just a few days ago I posted something to LinkedIn on strategy. Someone commented asking if I thought that there were fundamental concepts that all leaders share. Yes! Strategy isn’t just a corporate buzzword, or something scribbled on a whiteboard at the annual retreat. It is the actual foundation of decision-making, the quiet force that guides where energy, resources, and human resource flow. While every organization has its own unique challenges, there are...
